Adrian Meronk won Seve Ballesteros Award 2023 after being elected Player of the Year of his colleagues at DP World Tour. The award is one of the historic achievements of the 31-year-old, who became the first Pole to receive the honor after a season in which he won three tournaments and finished fourth in the Race to Dubai.
Meronk took 38% of the votes of his DP World Tour peers, while the Race to Dubai champion, Rory McIlroy, finished second. Ryder Cup debutant Nicolai Højgaard and PGA TOUR FedEx Cup winner Viktor Hovland shared third place.
Meronk received the trophy from one of Seve’s sons, Javier, who traveled to Dubai ahead of this week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic, which his father won more than 30 years ago.
The Pole started the 2023 season in style, winning his second DP World Tour title at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open, holding off the challenge of local favorite – and one of his golfing heroes – Adam Scott.
His success in Australia allowed him to break into the Top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking, which was enough to secure his first participation in the Augusta Masters and thus become the first Polish player to compete in all four that Grand Slam.
Soon after, he captured another national title at the DS Automobiles Italian Open, birdieing the 72nd hole at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club to win the title by one stroke. Shortly after his victory in Italy, he placed 45th in the OWGR, the best of his career.
His next victory of the campaign, and fourth DP World Tour title, came at the Estrella Damm NA Andalucía Masters in Sotogrande, where he secured his position in the top ten throughout the season rankings, ultimately finishing in fourth position and earning dual membership on the PGA TOUR for 2024.
The Player of the Year Award, named after the legendary Seve Ballesteros, joins the former Golfer of the Year Award after the two awards were combined in 2021 to become an honor voted on by members of the DP World Tour.
