A young Burgenlander was brutally taught. The attack could have come from his sister’s boyfriend. The incident happened months ago. Now the victim himself is on trial. During the argument, the 17-year-old allegedly injured a man (21) who, according to the lawyer, wanted to help.
On the evening of April 16, 2023, things went wild in Oberwart. “This Sunday I met my aunt and my grandmother. Suddenly, an attacker grabbed my arms and pinned them behind my back, while another punched me.”
Badly done
A young Burgenlander has bad memories of a violent argument on the street. The family members could only watch idly as the then 17-year-old was severely beaten. The injured man was in hospital with a broken nose and bruised ribs.
Repeatedly disputed
“The two perpetrators waited outside the hospital for a long time. “They clearly wanted to watch over my nephew,” the aunt surmised. The 17-year-old assumed that his sister’s boyfriend, who reportedly becomes violent quickly and with whom this repeatedly led to arguments, wanted to teach him a lesson.
Charges are pending
According to the current files, it is in fact the case that there was a violent conflict with the sister’s boyfriend. But the 17-year-old from Burgenland not only plays the role of victim and witness, but is now standing before the judge in Eisenstadt as the second suspect.
“I wanted to calm down”
Because there were others involved in the dispute. The first suspect in the upcoming trial is a 21-year-old stateless person. “My client wanted to calm the situation, but he sustained injuries during the scuffle. He also had to be taken to hospital,” explains lawyer Wissam Barbar.
The 21-year-old had suffered a laceration and a hematoma to his lower lip and a tooth was loose. Both suspects are innocent. Barbar hopes for distraction, i.e. abandoning formal criminal proceedings.
