Five fire brigades were deployed on Wednesday evening to fight a fire at a Billa branch in Breitenfurt near Vienna (Mödling district). Because the building was completely on fire, the alarm level had to be raised. How the fire started is still under investigation.
Local emergency responders reported on Facebook that the flames were quickly brought under control using two turntable ladders and multiple pipes, both external and partially internal, using heavy breathing equipment. Follow-up work would “continue to this day.”
The alert level had to be raised
The FF Breitenfurt was warned at midnight of a fire in the commercial area of the market town. When the first helpers arrived, the branch was completely ablaze and the operations manager immediately raised the alarm level. The FF Laab im Walde, Perchtoldsdorf, Kaltenleutbaren and Brunn am Gebirge were also warned.
It is still unclear what caused the fire and is being investigated. The Mödling District Command reported difficult conditions during the operation due to low temperatures of minus eight degrees.
