Fatal alpine accident Friday in the Tyrolean Oberland: a Belgian holidaymaker (67) fell during a mountain hike over steep, rocky terrain and suffered serious injuries. The woman had to be rescued with the help of a helicopter rope.
The 67-year-old Belgian woman and a companion went on a tour to the 3,004-meter-high Furgler in Serfaus (Landeck district). It happened during the descent back to the valley.
Fall with fatal consequences
“Shortly after 2 p.m., the woman fell without any external influence on the marked path and subsequently fell approximately ten to fifteen meters over steep, rocky terrain,” police said.
By helicopter to the clinic
The vacationer suffered serious injuries. “The person accompanying her immediately made an emergency call,” the investigators continued. The woman was rescued with a rope by the crew of the Christophorus 5 medical emergency helicopter and flown to the clinic in Innsbruck.
