Drastic measures – Strikes are threatened in four hospitals in Carinthia

Date:

The KV negotiations between the religious hospitals in Carinthia have been dragging on for months. Now the pressure is increasing: staff threaten to stop working if fair and satisfactory results are not ultimately achieved.

In August last year, the financing catalog for the collective labor agreement negotiations of the religious hospitals in Carinthia was presented. “These are not just limited to nursing, but to all professional groups, from doctors to physiotherapists to psychologists. Since then there have been six rounds of negotiations. The new KV should have come into effect in January. In fact, there have been only vague verbal promises so far,” says Theres Marschnig, works councilor of the Elisabethinen Hospital in Klagenfurt, which is located next to the Hospital of the Brothers of Mercy in St. Veit, the Waiern Hospital and the Spital de La Tour in Treffen.

In addition to a paid break and changeover time, previous periods of service must also be taken into account. Furthermore, there must be a sixth week of holiday and the salary must be adjusted to the Kabeg scheme. “It cannot be the case that equal employees are in different salary groups and earn several hundred euros less per month,” says Marschnig. For this reason, the staff is now threatening to stop work.

A company meeting will first take place on Thursday, in which employees will be informed about the state of affairs and strike decisions will be taken. The seventh KV negotiation will ultimately take place on January 22. “If the result is not satisfactory, there will be a strike in all four houses on January 29. “Patient care is of course guaranteed,” it is assured.
