Fear of Trump – US: “No interest in Ukraine losing the war”

Date:

Major Albin Rentenberger, Ukraine expert at the Austrian Armed Forces, says in the krone.tv interview with Jürgen Winterleitner that the Ukrainian counter-offensive failed and the country has therefore gone on the defensive. There is fear of a new American President Trump. Nevertheless, we should not forget: “The US has absolutely no interest in Ukraine losing this war.”

In recent weeks, Russian forces have regained the upper hand in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, especially in the battle for Avdiivka, says army Ukraine expert Major Albin Rentenberger. “Fighting has been going on around this city for months and it appears that the Russian forces have managed to surround this city. And that would certainly be a success for the elections in Russia that Putin could demonstrate if he manages to conquer this city,” said Rentenberger.

No peace in sight
Despite the impending elections in Russia and the US, which could influence the dynamics of the war, Rentenberger does not see an impending peace agreement because both warring sides are unwilling to compromise.

Major Rentenberger sees a huge problem for Ukraine if Republican Donald Trump takes over the US presidency again and drastically reduces military and financial support to the US: “That is certainly the great fear in Ukraine that a President Trump would no longer offer this support.”

Putin hopes for Trump
According to Rentenberger, Russian President Putin would continue the war of attrition in its current form and hope that “a President Trump, who comes to power in November, will stop this support.” The constant shelling from Russia makes it ‘difficult’.” for Ukraine to pull itself out of the mess with its arms industry. A US withdrawal is really a big problem for Ukraine,” said Major Rentenberger in an interview with Jürgen Winterleitner on krone.tv. However, you should also wait and see whether these very strong announcements from Trump will actually happen. Because we must not forget one thing: “America has absolutely no interest in Ukraine losing this war.”

Battle in Ukraine very losing for Russia
There is great fear in the Baltic states that Russia will not end with Ukraine, but will continue its war with other countries. “The fear is there. I have been to these countries myself and the threat perception is completely different.” But whether Putin actually has the ability to attack NATO and whether he would do so remains open to question. The battle in Ukraine had already cost Russia a lot of money.

‘Putin burns many young men’
Russia has always been a state with demographic problems: an aging population. “And now Putin is actually burning a lot of young men at the front. On the other hand, many young, well-educated men are leaving the country.” It is estimated that 300,000 men left Russia to avoid being drafted.

You can see what effects a Russian victory will have on European security policy, and what effects this could also have on security in Austria, in the video above.
