Dramatic accident Wednesday evening in Bösebach, Styria: a truck driver relieved himself on the highway bridge after a breakdown on the A9. He slipped and fell into the depths. All help came too late for the 77-year-old.
Around 7 p.m., the 77-year-old Dutchman drove the truck on the Pyhrnautobahn (A9) towards Graz. Shortly after leaving the Gleinalm tunnel, the truck train’s trailer skidded due to a technical problem and hit the guardrail.
Climbed over guardrails and railings
The 77-year-old then stopped on the hard shoulder and got out with his 58-year-old passenger. While the 58-year-old made an emergency call, the driver climbed over the guardrail and a railing to urinate.
Then it happened: the man slipped. At first he was able to hold on to a crossbar on the railing. The passenger immediately rushed to help and tried to pull the 77-year-old to his feet, but to no avail. The Dutchman fell about 25 meters.
The rescuers could only determine that the man was dead. The passenger was cared for by a crisis intervention team.
