New details about the murder case in Obernberg am Inn, Upper Austria, reveal terrible scenes: On Friday evening, a son (22) allegedly brutally stabbed his father. The victim fled to neighbors, covered in blood, but died a short time later in hospital. The 22-year-old has multiple criminal convictions to his name and was already a criminal at the age of 14.
The suspect’s mother and the victim’s wife must have witnessed all this: she would also have been in the house where the bloody crime took place at the time of the crime.
The 22-year-old Austrian should not have been in his parents’ house: he was no longer allowed to enter the house in early January after his father (59) reported him. There are said to have been arguments between father and son before.
Common arguments
On Friday evening, shortly before 3 a.m., the father-son team had their last argument: the 22-year-old allegedly gave his father at least seven stitches in his upper body and back.
The 59-year-old was initially able to escape covered in blood to neighbors who called 911. But shortly after being taken to Ried Hospital, the victim died from his serious injuries.
Hiding with a weapon
Meanwhile, the son, who was an urgent suspect, barricaded himself in the house – armed with his father’s long gun. The Cobra took off.
Ultimately, the 22-year-old was arrested without a shootout taking place.
The young man is no stranger to the legal system: he received his first criminal conviction when he was just 14 years old. He has been arrested several times for drug-related crimes – whether he was drunk at the time of the crime is under investigation – and has already been to jail twice for aggravated robbery. He was last released from prison in May 2022.
Further investigation by the National Criminal Investigation Department is in full swing. “We will of course apply for pre-trial detention for the 22-year-old,” says Alois Ebner of the Ried public prosecutor’s office.
