Financiers and money launderers – The EU imposes sanctions on six Hamas supporters

Date:

The EU has imposed sanctions on six people alleged to have financially supported the terrorist organization Hamas. The measures include an asset freeze and a ban on entry into the EU. A senior member of the terrorist organization’s Politburo is also affected.

The six people are believed to come from Arab or African countries, including donors from Sudan and Algeria. Other men are accused of being involved in money laundering and transferring money for the organization.

Leading Hamas figure hit
Musa Muhammad Salim Dudin, a leading Hamas figure and member of the group’s Politburo, is also affected. As a result of the sanctions decision, all funds, as well as other financial assets and economic resources of those affected in the EU should now be frozen. In addition, they are no longer allowed to enter the EU and are no longer allowed to receive assets and economic resources from the EU.

The backdrop to the EU’s action is the unprecedented massacre in Israel on October 7, which resulted in around 1,200 Israelis being killed and around 250 people abducted to the Gaza Strip. In addition to Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) was also involved in the crime. The new sanction instrument must also be able to be used against this organization in the future.

Islamic Jihad is considered one of the most radical militant groups in the Middle East. Its members also repeatedly fire rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel. However, the organization is considered less powerful than Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip.

Britain bans a new terrorist group
Meanwhile, the Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir has been banned as a terrorist organization in Britain. Home Secretary James Cleverly spoke about an anti-Semitic organization that actively promotes terrorism and, for example, celebrated the Hamas attacks. Belonging to or supporting the group will now be made a criminal offence, the government in London announced on Friday.
