A plane bound from Britain to the Canary Island of Lanzarote was diverted due to eight rowdy passengers; one passenger was arrested. The plane landed in Faro, Portugal on Friday due to unrest on board, a local police representative told the AFP news agency. The arrested passenger was of British-Polish descent, the seven other passengers were Polish nationals, the report said.
The passengers had ’caused a disturbance’, mainly by repeatedly shouting and banging on the luggage bins. They drank alcohol and ignored the crew’s instructions.
“Hostile” passenger arrested after resisting
After a request from police, seven passengers agreed to leave the plane. However, one refused and behaved ‘hostile and aggressive’, police said. He was eventually arrested for ‘disobedience’ and ‘resisting a police officer’.
The police do not want to say which airline is involved. According to various British media, it was a flight from budget airline Ryanair.
