Painted by hostage (5) – children’s drawings discovered in empty Hamas dungeon

Date:

The Israeli army has discovered an abandoned hostage shelter in the Gaza Strip. A five-year-old Israeli girl was also reportedly held in the cramped tunnel. Children’s drawings of the young hostage were found in the dungeon.

It is difficult to imagine the ordeal these hostages endured under the home of a Hamas terrorist in Khan Yunis. This hideout was discovered this weekend by the Israeli army. The soldiers came across the dungeon after walking about a kilometer through an underground passage at a depth of 20 meters.

“Terrible humidity” made breathing difficult
“As far as we know, 20 hostages are being held indoors in stuffy air with little oxygen and terrible humidity that makes breathing difficult,” said Daniel Hagari, a spokesman for the Israeli army. Some deportees who were housed in the dungeon are now back with their families. They were released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

The discovery in the tunnel of children’s drawings of a young hostage is heartbreaking. In one of these works, a house, a car, a tree, butterflies, birds and flowers can be seen against mountains and a sky with clouds. The five-year-old girl probably wanted to distract herself from the horror that happened to her during her captivity. The young Israeli has been reunited with her family since the hostage situation in November.

There are still 136 hostages held in Gaza
Hamas still holds 136 Israeli hostages. The Israeli army hopes to free these kidnapped victims: “The efforts are supported by technical resources, special forces and intelligence information that we continuously optimize,” Hagari explains.

Family members demand a new hostage situation
Many relatives of those abducted accuse the government of not doing enough to secure their release. Thousands of people demonstrated in Israel on Saturday. “Stop fighting, pay the price!” chanted a relative of one of the hostages in Tel Aviv. They call for new negotiations with Hamas to free more hostages.
