According to US President Joe Biden, a two-state solution in the Middle East is possible with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, Netanyahu rejected this on Saturday evening. He “will not make any compromises (…)”, the politician wrote on Platform X on Saturday evening.
It involved “full Israeli security control over the entire area west of the Jordan,” the report said. This is “contrary to a Palestinian state.” Netanyahu recently spoke on the phone with US President Joe Biden, who then stated that a two-state solution was possible (see video above).
Here you can see Benjamin Netanyahu’s message on X.
Biden said they could find a solution and that there were “different types of two-state solutions.” What this means is that there must be an official Palestinian state alongside Israel. The US government is an ally of Israel. Yet we must also say no, “if necessary, even to our closest friends,” according to the Israeli government.
Same position for years
In his conversations with Biden, Netanyahu reiterated the position he has consistently defended for years. “After eliminating Hamas, Israel must maintain full security control over the Gaza Strip to ensure that the Gaza Strip does not pose a threat to Israel, and this contradicts the demand for Palestinian sovereignty.”
Support for the two-state solution also comes from Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas as a “liberation movement” and Israel as a “terrorist state.” Nevertheless, he repeatedly offered himself as a mediator. In fact, the efforts so far have been carried out by representatives of Qatar and Egypt.
Nearly 25,000 dead in the Gaza Strip
The war in the Middle East began with Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7. About 1,140 people were killed and about 250 others were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli information, 132 hostages are still being held by Hamas, some of whom are believed to be dead.
In response to the attack, the Israeli army launched a large-scale military operation in the Gaza Strip. According to Hamas, more than 24,900 people have been killed there so far. The information cannot be independently verified.
