The Westernstadt Pullman City amusement park in Passau, near the Austrian border, burst into flames on Sunday morning. Several buildings were affected by the fire. Hotel guests had to be evacuated; the damage is estimated at millions.
“The fire was discovered by employees around 6 a.m.,” a police spokeswoman told Bild. “They tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher. But that didn’t work.”
A large-scale action by the fire brigade followed. Guests staying at a hotel on site were brought to safety by emergency services. The amusement park in the Bavarian Forest will remain closed on Sunday due to the flaming inferno.
Buildings are burned down in a controlled manner
The wooden buildings probably provided good fuel for the flames. The fire broke out on the so-called Main Street, where there are houses that resemble Western saloons, for example. Some buildings will probably be beyond saving; police said some of the affected houses will be burned down in a controlled manner.
There are currently no reports of injuries, but the amusement park is said to have suffered several million euros in damage.
