Caught in the Czech Republic – police patrols chased the thief across the border

Date:

Wild scenes took place in Gmünd in the Waldviertel: a Czech was caught trying to load stolen goods into a box truck for a hardware store. The police chased the thief all the way to the Czech Republic and found him in a forest.

A man from the Czech Republic was looking for stolen goods that were not particularly useful: he was preparing ladders and scaffolding parked in front of a hardware store in the Waldviertel, as well as other items, including a garden box, for disposal. What the 36-year-old didn’t know was that the alarm had already gone off!

Three patrol cars chased the van
Just as he had stowed the loot in his van, patrols from the inspectors of Gmünd and Bad Großpertholz drove into the forecourt of the market. When the officers wanted to check, the man got into his van and accelerated at full speed.

The escapee ignored all stop signs and ran recklessly towards the Böhmzeil border crossing. Meanwhile, three patrol cars had followed him and continued to pursue him in the Czech Republic.

Handover to the Czech police
The fugitive did not get far there: he tried to disappear along a forest path – without success: the local officials caught him together with the loaded garden box and handed the man over to their Czech colleagues. The value of the stolen goods – including finished goods – amounts to several thousand euros.
