Wild scenes – hostage members storm parliament in Israel

Date:

Relatives of kidnapped hostages in Israel have once again expressed their dissatisfaction with the government: on Monday, demonstrators stormed a meeting of an Israeli parliamentary committee. They demand greater efforts from parliamentarians to free their relatives (see also video above).

Posters read: “They will not sit here while they die.” Hamas kidnapped 253 people during its attack on Israel in early October. About 130 of these are still in the hands of radical Islamists.

A video on the X platform (formerly Twitter) shows the family members storming parliament:

During protests in Israel, relatives of the kidnapped hostages demanded their immediate release through a new deal. “We call on our government to play its role and propose an agreement,” John Polin demanded Monday evening outside the official residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Polin’s son Hersh Goldberg-Polin was seriously injured and kidnapped during the Hamas attack on the Nova music festival on October 7.

US, Qatar and Egypt mediate in new hostage deal
According to a report in the American newspaper “Wall Street Journal” on Sunday, negotiations between the US, Qatar and Egypt mediators with Israel and Hamas are currently in full swing to convince both sides to reach an agreement. The goal of the mediators is therefore to release the hostages in exchange for an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Up to 30 percent of Hamas fighters are killed
According to the report, Israel is far from its stated goal after the Hamas attack, which was to destroy the Palestinian organization that rules the Gaza Strip. Citing US intelligence, the newspaper reported that the Israeli army had killed “approximately 20 to 30 percent” of Hamas fighters since the war began on October 7.

Minister of Foreign Affairs shows photo of youngest hostage
Meanwhile, during a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz recalled the fate of the hostages with a photo of a kidnapped baby. Other images he presented showed injured women. It is now important to bring the hostages back home, he said.
