About four months after the violent riots during an event in Eritrea in Stuttgart, two more young men (26, 29) have now been charged. They allegedly threw heavy stones at the police.
The 29-year-old is accused of throwing the concrete base of a construction fence and a paving stone weighing more than three kilograms at the emergency services. He is also said to have tried to motivate other protesters to carry out similar attacks. The man is accused of serious breach of the peace, grievous bodily harm and assault on security forces.
A week and a half ago, the Public Prosecution Service in Stuttgart had already charged a 26-year-old who was allegedly involved in the riots and sometimes threw stones at the police.
More than 40 injured
A total of 39 police officers and several event participants were injured in the September 16 riots. 228 people were arrested. As reported, the riots took place on the sidelines of events organized by Eritrean clubs from the Stuttgart region. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the violence came from opponents of Eritrea’s leadership. At the time, politicians called for tough action against those responsible (see video above).
The East African country seceded from Ethiopia in 1993 after a thirty-year war and became independent. However, the country is considered one of the most isolated states in the world. Economic development, the lack of press freedom and human rights violations are sometimes criticized.
