Residents desperate – Construction site horror: ‘Dust and noise unbearable’

Date:

The construction boom in Vienna’s Donaustadt is a real nightmare for residents. Surrounded by construction sites, they are desperate.

A beautiful detached house in Kagran, not far from the flower gardens of Hirschstetten. What may have sounded like an idyllic living environment ten years ago has now given way to pure horror on the construction site.

“Surrounded by large construction sites”
The neighbors of a settlement on Markonnenstrae have had enough in the truest sense of the word. At the local inspection “Krone” yellow dirt is blowing into the gardens. “We’ve been surrounded by major construction sites for eight years,” complains Ulrike G. Currently at least three, it turns out. 1,700 apartments are being built on Langen Feld and Breitenleer Strasse has also been widened for weeks – even at night. The construction containers are located directly in front of the residents’ entrance doors.

“Dust and noise are unbearable, we are suffocating in the mud,” says a neighbor. They say you can’t do it anymore. Work and family life suffer.

At Krone’s request, MA 36, responsible for construction noise and dust at the construction site, said the pipeline work on Breitenleer Strasse is “allowed also at night” to ensure the uninterrupted operation of public supply lines. The construction machines are constantly monitored. “There was no unnecessary noise to be detected.” The situation is different in the case of dust nuisance.

Measured values that should be set were exceeded here. After all, there has been no more night work since the start of the week. A drop in the ocean for the troubled inhabitants of Donaustadt.
