These are images that make you sad when you stand on the Kirnbauer family farm in Schreibersdorf: the consequences of Saturday’s flash flood are still clearly visible even days later. It will take months for the damage to be repaired. While many families are currently busy with the clean-up work, emergency assistance has also started. Caritas and the Eisenstadt diocese have made 100,000 euros available for rapid and unbureaucratic emergency aid. “This emergency aid serves as additional help for particularly affected families and households until other bridging aid takes effect,” emphasizes Caritas director Melanie Balaskovics.
Caritas has supported 170 families so far
So far, approximately 170 families have taken advantage of the measure. But there is still intensive exchange with the parishes, the affected communities and the country, Balaskovics said.
