After a bloody act, the victim’s lawyer speaks of a “medical masterpiece”. An investigation is now underway into suspected attempted murder following the machete attack in Salzburg.
After a bloody incident on December 22 in the settlement of Scherzhauserfeld, an investigation is now underway on suspicion of attempted murder: the Salzburg Public Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed this to the “Krone”. New details now reveal what allegedly took place in the apartment building: an attack with a machete in which the victim – a Salzburger (37) – came close to losing his right hand.
That is why the man’s lawyer, Stefan Rieder from the victim protection organization Weißer Ring, clearly speaks of a “medical masterpiece in the accident hospital” with which the man’s hand could be sewn back together and saved. “He now needs regular check-ups and wears a plaster cast on his arm.”
A dispute with a man from Yemen degenerated into violence
The entire incident apparently took place in a drug-related environment. In the early morning hours of December 22, the Salzburg resident wanted to visit an acquaintance. However, when he knocked on the door, a strange man opened it: a 39-year-old from Yemen. The conversation that followed, probably about drugs and money, turned into an argument: the man from Salzburg suddenly lacked cash and accused the 39-year-old of stealing from him. And that’s why he struck, as he himself admitted to police officers.
The 39-year-old allegedly entered a room and returned with a machete. The Yemeni man is said to have hurled the weapon, which was estimated to be 40 centimeters long, at his head. The man from Salzburg defended himself with his hand – the machete almost cut off his hand. The victim fled bleeding. The attacker was subsequently arrested and has been in custody in Puch since then. The investigations are still ongoing.
