A serious traffic accident involving two trucks and two cars occurred on the Tauernautobahn (A10) in Salzburg around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. The result was a traffic jam that stretched for miles. As the ÖAMTC informed, lightning ice formed on the road near Zederhaus (Lungau) after leaving the Tauern Tunnel.
The highway was completely closed southbound. As traffic increased, a huge traffic jam developed that was already five to six kilometers long by 7:30 am. There were initially no reports of injuries.
Salvage work continues
“We assume that the rescue work will take another half hour to an hour,” an ÖAMTC spokesperson said around 7:30 am. There’s still a truck across the street. The accident site is probably near the highest point of the Tauern Autobahn at the southern portal of the Tauern Tunnel, at approximately 1,340 meters above sea level.
