On Thursday evening, police officers in Vienna-Floridsdorf noticed an 18-year-old driver spinning the wheels while driving. When they tried to stop him, the teenager gave chase with the officers and raced through the area at speeds of up to 100 mph. There were two other teenagers in the car.
During his escape, he ignored several red traffic lights, endangered a construction worker who was able to jump to safety in time, and caused an accident at the Brünner Straße / Katsushikastraße intersection, injuring one person.
According to police, he collided with the other vehicle, which was thrown against a light pole. The passenger of the car was injured. Then he continued his escape.
Passengers escaped from the car
He continued on Leopoldauer Strasse, where he had to stop due to a traffic jam. The two occupants, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old, used these to get out of the car. However, upon disembarking, the 17-year-old fell, causing the 18-year-old speeder to run over his foot as he continued his run.
Lost control of the car
At the Heinrich-von-Buol-Gasse intersection, the suspect again ignored the red light, spun at high speed, but then lost control of his vehicle and raced across a protective island. This damaged the vehicle to such an extent that it could no longer be driven.
The 18-year-old was subsequently provisionally arrested. His hearing will take place on Friday. The young man was not authorized to drive and the alcohol test was negative.
