Luxury of a different kind: the thief was flown to prison by helicopter

A 64-year-old German was given access to a hotel in Hirschegg in Kleinwalsertal (Vorarlberg) on ​​Tuesday afternoon. He sneaked into the company’s office and found an unlocked cash register. He emptied it, but suddenly the hotelier stood in front of him. The German then fled on foot. The hotelier immediately got into his car and gave chase.

After about 400 meters the fugitive was apprehended, the hotelier spoke to the brutal German, but he denied the crime and fled further towards Riezlern. During the escape, the suspect tried to hide from the hotelier. With the help of a witness immediately present, the perpetrator was found in his hiding place and arrested until the police officers from PI Kleinwalsertal arrived. The man also had the stolen 435 euros with him.

Open warrant
The German, who had several previous convictions, was eventually arrested on the basis of an open arrest warrant and the new offense after consultation with the journalist service of the Feldkirch Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Reason for the unusual withdrawal
The special thing in this specific case: the arrested man could only be taken to prison by plane and helicopter. Arrested German citizens may under no circumstances be transported through German territory by the Austrian authorities. Since the Kleinwalsertal cannot be reached directly from Vorarlberg due to its geographical location, the police and the suspect had to take off.
