Monika Ring from Upper Austria lost her job as a teacher because she gave sex tips on the internet as ‘Orgasm Pope’. Education Minister Martin Polaschek is now commenting on the situation in the “Krone” interview. He says that what you do as a teacher is also important outside of school.
She gave sex tips for people over 45 on social media, calls herself the ‘Orgasm Pope’ and worked as a teacher at a small school in Mühlviertel. The education board did not like that at all and fired Monika Ring (47) without notice. Since then, the story has made headlines across Europe.
In an interview with krone.tv, Minister of Education Martin Polaschek commented on the delicate matter. “Our youngest children are in primary school and as a teacher you have a particularly close bond with the children. And especially in primary schools, teachers have even more of a bond with parents,” the minister explains.
“Not an inconspicuous person”
And as an educator, you must also take this responsibility into your private life. “Here it is even more important to pay attention to what you stand for as a teacher outside of school, what life you lead and what part-time jobs you may do,” says Polaschek.
“The lady is not exactly an inconspicuous person,” the minister said, adding that her side job was not hidden.
“I still stand by it and have done nothing illegal. A healthy approach to sexuality is also good for adolescents and children. The subject must be removed from the taboo,” says Monika Ring.
