“We are all relieved that the attack has been resolved,” says ex-provincial councilor and entrepreneur Josef Fill from Gurten, Upper Austria, whose family was bound and gagged by three brutal perpetrators the year before. One perpetrator is still on the run, the person behind the crime has been arrested. But the crime continues to haunt the family.
“The night noises still scare us. “It wasn’t like that before,” Josef Fill told “Krone” after the explanation about the attack on July 17 of the previous year became known. “We always had the good feeling that the case would be solved. The police worked very professionally,” Fill praises the detectives, who want to announce the details on Thursday afternoon.
It is clear that two of the three burglars have been arrested: a German (42) and a North Macedonian (46). One of the perpetrators who broke into the house, Josef Fill, who tied up and gagged his wife and daughter, is still missing despite DNA evidence. The other two had also left genetic material at the crime scene and because of their criminal history, the databases had revealed their identities.
Order placed
After the criminals were arrested, investigators encountered another suspect, a 29-year-old from Innviertel. He is considered a source of ideas and an agent and is said to have hired the gang for the home invasion. In gratitude, he would receive part of the loot to pay off his own debts.
“Not a gram of gold in the house”
“There was not an ounce of gold in the house and not much else. “I’m not stupid,” Josef Fill told “Krone” on Thursday morning, precisely because the former state councilor and founder of the company did not want to attract criminals. “Yes, they got a few watches and other small things, but not what they actually wanted,” says the entrepreneurial legend from Gurten. And there was nothing there that had any great intellectual value.
