Another rocket attack took place on a ship off the coast of Yemen on Friday. As the British naval agency UKMTO announced, two missiles exploded in the water near a ship in the Gulf of Aden, southwest of the Yemeni port city of the same name.
The crew was safe and there was no damage. The ship will continue its course to the next destination port, the report said. Coalition forces responded to the attack, the statement continued. Ships were warned to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
The responsible US military regional command (CENTCOM) announced on X (formerly Twitter) in the afternoon that Houthi rebels had fired an anti-ship ballistic missile at the Navy destroyer USS Carney in the Gulf of Aden. The missile was shot down. There was no damage or injuries.
Attacks on ships since the start of the Gaza war
Since the start of the Gaza war between Israel and the Islamist Hamas, the Houthis – in solidarity with Hamas – have repeatedly attacked cargo ships with alleged Israeli connections off the Yemeni coast.
Military attacks on Houthi positions
Yemen is located on one of the most important trade routes, connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Indian Ocean via the Suez Canal in Egypt. In response, the US and Britain have carried out military strikes on positions of the militant Islamist Houthi several times in recent weeks.
