ÖVP chairman Karl Nehammer really starts the election year today with a big speech (see livestream above) in Wels. Much of the content has already been leaked in advance. The Chancellor wants to reduce the first tax bracket, make overtime tax-free and abolish all fees and taxes on the first home. His proposal to ban gender from public administration also caused some discussion. Nehammer wants stricter penalties for climate adhesives.
1,500 people have been invited to the Wels trade fair, including the black government team and state governors from the ÖVP ranks.
Secretary General Christian Stocker, club president August Wöginger and State Secretary for Youth Claudia Plakolm have their say in moderate conversations. The highlight will be the party chairman’s speech, which will last about 45 minutes to an hour.
The biggest element of tension ahead of the event is probably whether Nehammer will also comment on the topic of early elections.
Recently there were rumors that the National Council and the EU elections on June 9 could be combined.
