15,000 police officers – Paris: With armored vehicles against farmers’ protests

Date:

The French police want to deploy a large force to prevent the blockade of Paris, which is threatened by farmers from Monday. As Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on Sunday evening, 15,000 officers, armored vehicles and helicopters will be mobilized. You must ensure that the capital, the two airports of Paris and the wholesale market of Rungis remain accessible.

Images from the Paris police prefecture showed armored vehicles already taking up positions in the evening. In their fight for better working and living conditions, farmers had threatened to blockade Paris from Monday.

Will Paris be paralyzed?
All main axes leading to the metropolis must therefore be interrupted. Farmers also want to block the Rungis wholesale market. It is a gigantic transshipment point for fish, meat, poultry, dairy and delicatessen products.

The Interior Minister emphasized that it was not a test of strength, but rather an orderly conduct of the protests. The police themselves will not intervene at blockade posts. Public buildings must be protected and foreign road trains must be able to travel safely through France. What must be prevented is that, as has already happened in isolated cases, trucks from Spain or Portugal, for example, are stopped and looted by farmers.

The Prime Minister promised help
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal made sweeping promises of aid to farmers on Friday, despite days of protests. On Sunday, Attal promised additional measures against unfair competition from other countries during a visit to a farm. So far, the promises for farmers have not gone far enough.
