Slovak parliamentary vice-president Andrej Danko has announced that he will spend a day cleaning the streets. The politician wrote on Facebook that after a traffic accident he wanted to keep his promise and make up for his misconduct.
Danko, who is running for president in the March 23 presidential election, broke a traffic light in Bratislava with his car on the night of January 18. However, instead of waiting for the police to arrive, he went home.
No alcohol test: also criticism of the police
Only the next day did he take an alcohol test, which was of course negative. Since then, opposition parties have been calling for his resignation. Police are also being criticized for finding the 49-year-old nationalist due to an oil slick on the night of the accident, but not immediately carrying out an alcohol test.
As head of the co-ruling Slovak National Party SNS, Danko is one of the most powerful men in the governing coalition that has been in power since October last year. In the past, he himself served as Speaker of Parliament, making him the second highest civil servant in the Slovak Republic. He wants to start his job as a street sweeper on April 6.
