At least 44 Palestinian civilians have been killed and another 88 people injured in Israeli army airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in the past day.
The United Nations has once again warned of the serious risk of famine facing the people of the northern Gaza Strip and stressed the need for urgent intervention by those with the ability to directly or indirectly influence the region.
The director of the World Food Program (WFP), Cindy McCain, has lamented that this warning “confirms the unacceptable”. “Immediate measures must be taken to enable the safe, rapid and unhindered flow of humanitarian and commercial goods so that a total catastrophe can be avoided,” he agreed.
In a context where humanitarian aid has been paralyzed and the number of trucks entering Gaza has been ‘dramatically’ reduced, Food prices “are now about ten times higher than before the conflict.”
The lack of a response “in the coming days” to these calls will “further worsen” the situation in Gaza and “result in more avoidable civilian deaths.”
“Unless effective action is taken by influential stakeholders, the scale of this looming catastrophe is likely to dwarf anything we have seen to date in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023,” they concluded.
The bombing of civilians continues
At least 44 Palestinian civilians have lost their lives and another 88 people have been injured in the past day as a result of a new series of airstrikes by the Israeli army on the cities of Gaza and Khan Younis.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked the Fahd al Sabah school, which until then served as a shelter for displaced persons, killing five civilians. Similarly, air forces fired against tents occupied by displaced persons. Nine people were killed in that attack and several were injured and taken to Nasser Hospital, located in the town of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
