Olympic Games 1964 – the world is a guest in Tyrol, admission costs 30 schillings

International flair, new sports venues and many celebrities – the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck were like the beginning of a new era for the Tyroleans. There are also many goodies in the official final report of the sporting event. Part 3 of the ‘Krone’ series, in which we look back on the home games of 60 years ago.

Swiss pop star Vico Torriani sang his “Ski Twist” here. The Shah of Persia and his beautiful wife Farah Diba mingled with the spectators and were said to have tried out the women’s descent in the Axamer Lizum disguised as a sports official. The Vienna Philharmonic played and spectators were taken to Innsbruck by special Federal Railways trains.
