Short chase – Carinthian dealer wanted to smuggle grass across the border

Date:

We always hear about imported drug crime, but on Tuesday a 38-year-old Carinthian man took matters into his own hands.

The man from the Klagenfurt-Land district went on a special shopping trip to Slovenia on Tuesday and was on his way home with two large bags of cannabis herb. But when he was checked at the Paulitschsattel border crossing near Bad Eisenkappel, he lost his nerve. “At immigration control, he was asked to show his travel document and hand over his passport,” police said. “But then he evaded control and fled in his car.”

A manhunt was immediately launched and just eight miles away, the 38-year-old’s escape came to an abrupt end. “A patrol of the Austrian Federal Army was able to stop the man at the Seebergsattel border crossing,” police said. Upon checking the vehicle, the discovery was made: 654.88 grams of cannabis herb in two bags – an amount that, depending on the quality on the street, has a value in the mid to high four-digit range.

When the 38-year-old Carinthian was arrested, even larger amounts of cash and a mobile phone were found. “During the interrogation, the man confessed to the import and possession of the cannabis herb,” the police conclude. “He was reported to the Klagenfurt public prosecutor.”
