War in Ukraine – Germany wants to train another 10,000 soldiers

Date:

About 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have already been trained in Germany for the war against Russia. Another 10,000 will follow as part of the European training mission EUMAM.

With the mission, the EU wants to help ensure that Ukrainian troops can defend themselves even better against attackers from Russia in the future than before. It is also about increasing the country’s resilience in the conflict.

Lack of weapons and soldiers
The Ukrainian army announced in December last year that it wanted to recruit up to 500,000 new soldiers. There is a lack of soldiers and weapons. Ukrainian President Zelensky said at the time that vital aid from the West was partially blocked.

The German Bundeswehr has trained around 10,000 of its approximately 40,000 soldiers as part of the EU mission – including on the Patriot air defense system, the 2000 self-propelled howitzer, the Marder infantry fighting vehicle and the Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 main battle tanks.

According to US information, many Leos are currently being repaired in the Baltics (see video below).

However, training in military leadership and in the medical sector is also needed.

It is clear to Germany that it will remain firmly on Ukraine’s side.

According to the Bundeswehr, an average of around 1,500 Bundeswehr members were recently involved in the mission. They were therefore used as trainers, but also in supplying the Ukrainian armed forces and as language mediators.
