On the night of March 15, a woman was raped on her way home in Vienna-Wieden by a previously unknown perpetrator. Shortly afterwards he fled. A few days later, officers managed to arrest a suspect (55) during a routine check.
The suspect dragged the 41-year-old into a garage entrance on Viktorgasse in the middle of the night. Shortly afterwards he raped her. When the victim screamed loudly for help, the neighbors became aware of the two. The unknown perpetrator immediately fled and the 41-year-old alerted the emergency services. However, no trace of the suspect has been found so far. The woman was taken to a hospital.
Video footage led to suspects
Video recordings from the vicinity of the crime scene were secured and an exact description of the perpetrator was released before the search. Subsequently, last Sunday, officials arrested a suspect in the Margareten district, who is subject to a current residence ban.
Denies the crime
The 55-year-old was arrested on orders from the Vienna public prosecutor’s office. During interrogation, he stated that sexual acts had taken place, but denied the accusation of rape. After the interrogation, the 55-year-old was taken to a prison.
