Major impact in the case of the dismembered corpse in Vienna. A fellow countryman of the Iranian victim has now been arrested – and has confessed to the crime.
It took just under two weeks before police officers were able to solve the puzzle surrounding the dismembered body from the Marchfeld Canal in Vienna. The case was initially mysterious, starting with a terrifying fishing trip – the events in fast forward: In mid-January, on a quiet Saturday afternoon, an experienced Petri disciple decided to try his luck in the Schwarzlackenau in the Floridsdorf district.
Rotten lower leg
After a short time, the man pulled a severed and severely decomposed lower leg from the water. Shocked, the fisherman alerted the police and the investigation started.
Beaten to death, sawn up and thrown away as waste
In the hours and days that followed, more and more body parts were recovered in the Marchfeld Canal area. A DNA analysis soon provided clarity. The victim was a 45-year-old Iranian man who was reported missing by his ex-wife in November. The autopsy ultimately confirmed the violent act: Peyman N. was beaten to death, brutally sawn in half and dumped as waste in the icy canal.
Companion of Peyman N.
The detectives’ trail led, among other things, to Vienna’s 13th district, where the father of a daughter lived until his disappearance. The investigation later expanded to the victim’s private and professional environment. They now came to a successful conclusion in the Lower Austrian district of Mistelbach, north of the federal capital.
The deal fell through
On Monday afternoon, handcuffs were placed on a 38-year-old compatriot of the deceased man. The alleged perpetrator is said to be a partner of Peyman N.. This was in the sights of the murder investigators from the start. According to reports, the two wanted to set up a moving company and the suspect invested around 50,000 euros in the company. But success failed to materialize and the deal fell through. When the investor wanted his share back, a dispute probably arose. The motive for the murder seems clear: it was again about money.
Suspect confesses and remains silent
After his arrest, the 38-year-old was interrogated for hours by investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department. Eventually they managed to get a confession out of him. The Iranian admitted that he had murdered and dismembered his compatriot and business partner. However, he did not want to reveal more details. And the man also decided not to have his own lawyer for the time being.
