A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening at a folk festival in Emden, Germany. An 18-year-old woman, who was probably employed by a carousel company, was said to have been fatally injured.
A police spokesperson said it was an “occupational accident with one fatally injured”. The young employee was apparently trying to get something out of the ride shortly after midnight when she suddenly fell between the ground and the moving carousel, officials said Sunday.
Victim died in hospital
The 18-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident and died that same night in hospital. The carousel was dismantled shortly after the accident.
The entire city is in deep mourning: “My sincere condolences go out to the family of the deceased and everyone who loves them. This suffering is unimaginable and leaves me speechless,” Emden Mayor Tim Kruithoff wrote on the website of The 31st Emder Matjespodium should have been a lively and joyful party after the pandemic phase, but now a dark shadow of sadness hangs over the event, says Kruithoff.
