Arson in the Weinviertel! An unknown person set fire to ten electric vehicles on the company premises at night, prompting a large-scale fire brigade operation. A month after the crime, the police are looking for a clue.
You don’t recognize the stranger in the videos. But the analysis of surveillance cameras clearly shows that a man drove past the business premises in Eibesbrunn, in the Mistelbach district, several times in the evening hours of April 24. The man first cycled to the crime scene in a van, but on the way back the object was no longer recognizable.
Just minutes later, the suspected fire devil took the same route towards the company premises, but this time he stayed longer. An hour and a half later, shortly before midnight, the alarm bells suddenly rang. Twelve electric vehicles were on fire in the parking lot!
A fire broke out and the cyclist fled
Six minutes later the stranger drove into the camera trap again. But this time at a significantly higher speed, which police say indicates he flew away from the scene. Since the recordings are of poor quality, the video alone probably won’t lead to what you’re looking for. The researchers hope for information from the public. “It is very possible that the cyclist looked suspicious to someone at night,” they say.
Investigators soon realized the fire was caused intentionally. The resulting material damage is estimated at 460,000 euros. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the operation.
