Stephan Weiss helped develop the ‘Ingenuity’ helicopter, whose mission on the Red Planet ended. The researcher experienced all 72 flights of his drone.
As reported, the Mars helicopter “Ingenuity” can no longer fly. The US space agency NASA said in images it recently sent to Earth that the mini helicopter’s rotor blades were damaged during a landing.
“The historic journey is over after three years,” says Stephan Weiss from the Lakeside Park research center in Klagenfurt, where the researcher teaches at the Institute for Intelligent Systems Science. Weiss regularly attends the NASA conferences that take place in Los Angeles. They often last all night. “Ingenuity” is the Swiss native’s baby.
