Four dogs, including two puppies, were horribly killed in the US state of Florida. Her 25-year-old owner left the four-legged friends in the car when the temperature was around 30 degrees when she went to a restaurant with her boyfriend. When she came back later, the dogs were already dead and dying of pain in the car, which was about 54 degrees.
The 25-year-old from Missouri had visited Florida with her boyfriend, according to American media. The two went to a restaurant in New Smyrna Beach on Thursday and left their four dogs — a four-year-old Goldendoodle, a two-year-old Boxer and two Goldendoodle puppies, just 12 weeks old — in the car. The outside temperature was about 30 degrees.
Checked out things once
She turned on the air conditioning and left the car running, the 25-year-old told police. She also wants to see the animals in the meantime, she explained. Everything was good there.
But how quickly a vehicle can turn into a death trap, especially in summer temperatures, needs to be demonstrated: When the couple returned to the car after about an hour, the four dogs were dead, the car and air conditioning turned off.
“I shouldn’t have a dog”
According to the police, it is possible that the animals parked the car themselves. The couple were desperate and wept for the dead dogs when officials arrived on the scene after the emergency call, it said. “I shouldn’t have a dog,” the young woman said, according to the police report. “I can’t believe I let that happen.”
The 25-year-old was arrested on four counts of animal cruelty and jailed.
