Installing water pipes from the stream, extinguishing fires with turntable ladders and respiratory protection: a farm fire in Siebenbrünn-Riegersdorf, Carinthia, claimed more than 180 comrades from ten fire brigades.
On Saturday night at 2:50 am the sirens sounded: the fire brigade of the municipality of Arnoldstein was called to a fire in a business premises.
The building in the St. Leonhard district goes up completely in flames. The area is densely built-up, so the flames have already spread to the roof of the house. The two residents were able to get to safety in time. The fire brigade immediately launched an external attack: they wanted to protect the nearby church with this extinguishing work.
The operational manager, section fire brigade commander Michael Miggitsch, requests additional fire brigades via the National Alarm and Warning Center.
Water must be brought in
Water is scarce, so the comrades lay supply lines from nearby Feistritzbach. Tank fire engines also set up a shuttle service from Fürnitz and Gödersdorf to bring sufficient firefighting water to the scene.
Huge smoke development
The fire in the house is extinguished using two turntable ladders and other surrounding buildings are protected. The work must be carried out with heavy respiratory protection, because the amount of smoke produced is enormous.
180 comrades from ten fire brigades were deployed
More than 180 firefighters from the FF Siebenbrünn-Riegersdorf, Arnoldstein, Fürnitz, Gödersdorf, Pöckau-Lind, Seltschach-Agoritschach, Thörl-Maglern, Kerschdorf-Wertschach, the Villach main fire station and the Pogöriach fire brigade are present.
The police close access to St. Leonhard and provide a diversion. The cause of the fire is still unclear. The National Criminal Investigation Department will take over the investigation. The fire brigade is still active: hotspots require their attention.
