Two serious collisions on the Tyrolean slopes on Saturday show astonishing parallels: both involved snowboarders and skiers, and both times the victim suffered rib fractures.
At around 9:45 a.m., a collision occurred between a German snowboarder (28) and a German skier (61) on the red-marked slope No. 10 in the Rifflsee ski area in St. Leonhard im Pitztal. The latter had stopped on the left side of the track to wait for his colleagues to come after him.
Man overlooked at the edge of the slopes
The snowboarder must have overlooked this and collided with the older man. The collision caused both people involved to fall. The skier suffered serial rib fractures and was taken by ambulance to Zams Hospital after initial treatment.
The second, strikingly similar accident occurred about half an hour later, around 10:15 am. in the Grubigstein ski area in Lermoos: For unknown reasons, a German snowboarder (43) collided with a German skier (59), causing both to fall. The woman lost consciousness for a moment and remained lying on the blue slope.
Doctor happened to be on site
The second person involved and a passing doctor provided first aid until the pest rescue team arrived. Ultimately, the injured woman was flown by emergency helicopter to the Reutte district hospital, where rib fractures and a concussion were diagnosed.
