Thanks to modern technology, a woman was quickly found by the fire brigade and rescue team. The driver was propped over an embankment in Upper Austria with her vehicle on Monday evening. The emergency call system in her SUV notified rescuers.
It is still unclear why the woman left the road in the municipality of Tiefgraben near Mondsee around 12:05 p.m. and drove her car over an embankment. But her vehicle made an e-call and a few minutes later the first rescuers arrived on the scene.
Woman lay on the ground
“When we arrived with the first vehicle, the accident car could be seen under Mondsee Strasse on the Mondseeberg, with inflated airbags. Together with our comrades from the Mondsee Red Cross we ran down the dike. The driver was not trapped, but was lying on the floor of the vehicle in the passenger seat!”, says operations manager Johannes Schwaighofer of FF Tiefgraben, describing the dramatic situation.
Vehicle shot through forest
It soon became clear: the driver had left the road. The car shot over the steep embankment through a forest and a stream bed. After the stream, a tree fell and about 100 meters later the car came to a stop on the dike.
The injured driver was treated and carried over the dike on a basket stretcher. The damaged car was recovered with a tractor. After about two hours the operation was over.
