Markus Illko from Kapfenberg received a Grammy on Sunday evening in Los Angeles for his cover version of the Johnny Cash classic ‘Folsom Prison Blues’. On the way back from the Grammy after-show party, the 42-year-old told Krone+ what it feels like, why he got to play Cash’s old guitar and which spot he reserved for the trophy.
Crown: Hand on heart: Did winning the “Grammy” Award fulfill a lifelong dream for you on Monday night in Los Angeles?
Markus Ilko: It’s all “high life” for me right now. I am very, very euphoric and have a lot of positive feelings inside me. We have worked incredibly hard for it. The Grammy is an award given by musicians, composers and past winners. To be honored by this community is a great honor. Our category included Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (for the cello version from the Netflix series “Wednesday”, note) and Ludwig Göransen with “Can You Hear The Music” from the Hollywood hit “Oppenheimer” were nominated. I’m proud to say we beat the Rolling Stones. Life’s dream? Phew, at least I don’t feel that bad (laughs).
