“Never more space” – Scholz praises demos against right-wing extremism

“If something can never find a place in our country again, it is the ethnic, racist ideology (…),” he said after a meeting with people with foreign roots and representatives of migrant associations. Almost every fourth person in Germany already has an immigration history. “Germany is our common home.” But many people would now be concerned because they felt like they were being targeted as right-wing extremists spread their inhumane ideas about resettlement.

480,000 people at demonstrations this weekend
According to the German Ministry of the Interior, more than 480,000 people took part in nationwide rallies last weekend alone (see video above). The wave of protests against the right has been going on for more than three weeks. The reason was an investigation by media company Correctiv into a meeting between the radical right and individual politicians from the AfD, CDU and Values ​​Union in Potsdam in November. There, the former head of the right-wing extremist Identitarian Movement in Austria, Martin Sellner, spoke about the concept of so-called remigration. Right-wing extremists usually mean that a large number of people of foreign origin must leave the country, also under duress.

Clubs banned, laws tightened
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) has now banned clubs and tightened the laws. The planned democracy promotion law should now be quickly adopted in the Bundestag. This means that, in the longer term, government funding is provided to clubs and organizations that are committed to democracy.
