In the Zauchensee ski area in Pongau, 17 people were stuck at the mountain station of an inclined lift on Tuesday afternoon. The inclined elevator on the Gamskogel could no longer travel to the station, probably due to a technical defect.
The ten adults and seven children who were there waiting to leave were not allowed to descend without assistance due to the steepness of the terrain. They were rescued by mountain rescue services and a transport helicopter.
Secured and supervised by mountain rescuers
“No one was injured,” explains operational manager Helmut Pitscheider of the Altenmarkt mountain rescue service. The people were secured and guided by mountain rescuers on a rope railing during the descent to the nearby Schwarzwandbahn, and some were also flown to the Schwarzwandbahn in a transport helicopter from the Wucher company.
People are provided with hot tea
“The operation was carried out very quickly and easily,” emphasized the district manager of the Pongau mountain rescue service, Gerhard Kremser. “Two rescue locations in the mountains were alerted, Altenmarkt and Flachau.” The alarm was received by mountain rescue at 2:09 p.m. “At 3.25 pm everyone was rescued and arrived at the Schwarzwandbahn. Then they were given hot tea,” says operations manager Pitscheider. A total of fourteen mountain rescuers took part in the operation.
