After an avalanche, the mountain rescue team from Bad Hofgastein (Salzburg) went looking for the owner of an abandoned snowboard on Monday afternoon. The all-clear was quickly given.
On Monday afternoon, the Bad Hofgastein mountain rescue service was called to a suspected avalanche on the Schlossalm after two skiers discovered a snowboard near the Nature Friends House. It was thought that a snowboarder may have been buried there as there had been some snow slides in the area.
To which 14 mountain rescuers from the Bad Hofgastein location responded immediately. A mountain rescue dog handler and his dog were picked up by helicopter from the retrieval system in Dorfgastein and flown to the location approximately 1,750 meters above sea level.
“Everything wanted”
“We searched everything, including the ‘Recco’,” explains Hannes Reitsamer, manager of mountain rescue operations. Fortunately, everything was soon cleared: it was just an older piece of snow and there was no one under the snow. The discovered snowboard was from the 2019/2020 winter season and was rusty, indicating that it had probably been there for a long time.
