When police officers were called to an operation near the American metropolis of Philadelphia on Wednesday, they were hit by shots from a residential building. Shortly afterwards, a fire rages in the building, preventing officials from gaining access. It is feared that eight family members were in the burned house, including several children.
Police were called to the town of East Lansdowne in the afternoon after an eleven-year-old girl was allegedly shot in the street. When police arrived on the scene, a gunman immediately opened fire from inside the apartment complex. Two police officers were shot and taken to hospital.
Prosecutor: “I don’t know if they are dead”
Ultimately, a fire broke out in the house for unknown reasons. “Our fear is that there are multiple people in this house,” District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said. “I don’t know if they’re dead.”
He made it clear that emergency services would not be able to search for the missing people in the building until Thursday morning (local time) because it was still on fire. It was also initially unclear whether the reports about the alleged shots at the girl were correct. The entire street was evacuated. The background to the incident was initially unclear.
