ELA, LAB, CCOO and UGT have recalled that the staff of hospitality companies in Bizkaia have not had a salary increase since 2020, while the CPI has increased by 12.9%, exposing them to a loss of purchasing power.
The unions ELA, LAB, CCOO and UGT have announced that the Bizkaia catering industry is once again resuming its mobilizations in defense of a new agreement with a demonstration in Bilbao on February 24on the occasion of International Bartender Day, to denounce that negotiations have been stuck for a year and that their employment and salary conditions have been frozen since 2020.
According to what the four convening unions announced in a joint statement read out in the two official languages, over the course of these months, and since the last meeting in the spring of 2023, the employers’ organization has ”limited itself to doing a deeply inadequate economic proposal that impoverishes the purchasing power of workers in the sector.”
The demonstration on February 24 starts at 12:30 p.m., from Gran Vía, 38 in Bilbao, headquarters of the Hospitality Associationto culminate his tour at the Plaza Nueva.
ELA, LAB, CCOO and UGT have reminded that the catering staff in Bizkaia have done so without salary increase since 2020 and while the CPI has increased by 12.9% during this period, salaries in Bizkaia’s hospitality sector have “increased by 0%” and are therefore exposed to a loss of purchasing power.
The four trade union centers took the opportunity to recall that the sector has been reactivated after the pandemic and “it is a reality that the establishments have returned to a very high occupancy rate due to the increase in tourism and bookings for events on the field of restoration”.
