The expansion of solar energy in Austria is proceeding at record speed. As the current figures show, a historic high of 1009 megawatt peak was reached last year. “2022 was the first year of the Renewable Energy Extension Act. At the same time, the high price of electricity has pushed large segments of the population and companies to generate their own solar energy,” explains Vera Immitzer, Managing Director of PV Austria.
The promotion of solar energy also played a major role in the PV boom. The Ministry of Climate Protection has made more than 600 million euros available for this purpose. The results of the second financing round have recently been announced: all approximately 30,000 applications for private roof systems up to 20 kilowatts have been approved. “The demand for the solar power subsidy is really impressive. I am very pleased that we can also fund all applications for private roof systems in the second round. So this year we are once again heading for an all-time record in the expansion of solar power plants,” said minister Leonore Gewessler with pleasure.
