Day 96 in Russia’s war against Ukraine: krone.at reports live on the most important developments of the day.

The most important news in short:

  • According to Ukrainian data and CNN research, Russia is bringing stolen grain to Syria. The Russian cargo ship Matros Pozynich has been sighted in the Syrian port of Latakia (see satellite image above).
  • According to their own statements, the Ukrainian army continued its offensive in the south of the country, which started on Saturday. “The situation in the south is dynamic and tense,” the commander in charge said.
  • The Ukrainian winners of the Eurovision Song Contest have auctioned their trophy for the army of their home country.
  • There is still no agreement on an embargo on Russian oil before the start of the special EU summit this afternoon. Hopes remain that a compromise proposal will be passed today.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has fired the intelligence chief in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. He found that since the beginning of the war he had “only thought of himself,” Zelenskyj said.

The Russian military offensive in Ukraine is the culmination of a conflict that has been raging for years. A chronology of the events can be found here.
