What could go wrong? That’s probably what a heavily drunk 34-year-old from Wolfsberg thought on Saturday morning when he filled a bottle of fuel and smoked relaxed next to it.
The man apparently wanted to refuel his chainsaw – so he was refueling early Saturday morning in an apartment building in Wolfsberg. “He wanted to fill a bottle with it. He spilled some of the mixture and wanted to clean it up again. A piece of ember from the cigarette fell to the ground. “There was immediately a flash of flame,” police said. “The 34-year-old tenant, his 27-year-old girlfriend and a 23-year-old guest were able to quickly leave the ground floor apartment with their dog, which immediately caught fire.” The Wolfsberg fire brigade was alerted. at 4:18 a.m. and immediately went to the scene. There she was supported by the St. Margarethen and St. Johann fire brigades.
“The FF Wolfsberg respiratory protection team also carried out an internal attack using a high-pressure line and located the source of the fire,” reports district fire chief Christoph Gerak. “The fire was quickly under control.” The 35 firefighters then brought out furniture to prevent the fire from spreading further. The fire was extinguished after more than an hour and the fire brigade was able to enter again after three hours.
